PeaceWorks is a not-only-for-profit company that creates foodstuffs with the aim of fostering regional and commercial cooperation in high-conflict areas. Meditalia tapenades are one of the ways the PeaceWorks organization brings Arabs and Israelis together for a commercial venture. Black olives from the Palestinian territories and sun-dried tomatoes from Turkey are blended into chunky, flavorful spreads that are bottled in glass jars made in Egypt.Seven flavors are available, including black olive, sundried tomato, roasted eggplant, and eggplant and tomato.
Wild Oats is scheduled to carry the products this summer. They can also be purchased online for $23.95 for six, 6.35-ounce jars. Five percent of the profits go to OneVoice, a movement that supports peace in the region. Learn more at www.peaceworks.com.
