The exotic flavors of Indonesia are available here in a line of products from PeaceWorks, a company that hires workers from rival factions in conflict-ridden parts of the world to produce consumer food products.
In this case, they have Buddhists, Muslims and Christians working together in a factory managed by women to produce the Bali Spice line, which consists of 18 products, including sauces, seasonings, coconut milk, noodles, and seasoned noodle kits.
In sampling the packet so distinctly identified as Chili & Garlic Seasoning for Fried Rice, the mixture was easily combined with separately cooked chicken and rice for a pungent, flavorful entree.
Even better: Brush the seasoning mix over the chicken parts before browning and baking them to infuse the flavor.
Bali Spice items are priced from $1.49 to $3 and are available at Whole Foods Markets.
