Whoever thought that buying a candy bar could lead to world peace? Ten percent of the price of the Wafa bar, which costs 79 cents to $1, is donated to Seeds of Peace, a nonprofit organization that educates young people about coexistence. The candy is made by Arabs and Israelis in a cooperative venture in Israel, and is distributed by Peaceworks Inc., a Manhattan-based company. An approximate English translation of "wafa," an Arabic world, is "fidelity."
So much for laudatory goals. What does the Wafa bar taste like? A crisp cookie with hazelnuts and a milk-chocolate coating, it is a notch above other chocolate bars of this ilk.
